Ernie, our Bug!

Let me introduce our 1973 Marina Blue 1200 Bug ....

Ernie!!!

I have set up this page so that I can show you his progress as we upcate him and replace bits and generally make him perfect....

Day 1

Original back seat but yucky ford seats up front.....they will have to go

Minimal dash.....that won't last long either lol

Bit of rust on the bonnet, we will be on the look out for a new one at the shows this year I think

Dented and rusty wing...Marcs first project

All the mod cons in ernie.....just a shame it didn't work

Ernie meeting our other dubs

Oh what a cute bum

January 22nd 2008

Now for the work we have doneĀ so far

(in no particular order)

Here is ernie with his new wing

and a close up...

We went to visit Hazel and Mark at Madmatz for their open day and came home with some snazzy new mats

Mats from mad matz

Basket from mega bug

Christmas saw ernie getting a few new toys, including an interior re trim kit, here is the rear seat base

and here is the back seat in the car

Interior retrim kit from harrington group

Beige Seat belts from custom and commercial

here is the parcel shelf that i retrimmed to match the new interior, and Marc sprayed the speaker covers to help them blend in a bit

So we went to fit some orginal front seats....only one slight problem the runners had been attacked to fit the ford seats....so off it went to evolution to have that sorted

We stripped ernie out for evo, and here is how he looked

Back from evo and we treated the floor to a coat of Por 15 (both sides are done now not just the one)

Runners sorted out by vw evolution

Decided to trim the kick panels for under the rear seat too

Marc decided to give some chrome magic a try (from frosts)

here is before....

and after....wow

another one of ernie's christmas presents

Parcel Shelf from vw heritage

Fog light donated by one of our friends :)

Decided to change back to standard steels, so Marc painted them in Marina Blue and Panama Beige, then we fitted some baby moons

and then I made myself paint on some white walls

oh and a new stereo, fitted under the dash this time so it should be nice and protected from the cold and things
